It is like they only watch the highlights package before the game. Tago before his Pec Injury was a Top 5 centre in the entire NRL. Absolute weapon. That is probably what they are remembering.
Just watched the replay. Laurie was 10/10 in attack. The pass for the Turuva break was special BUT he should have stopped some to the tries Dyl I reckon stops 2 or 3.

The thing that annoys me with the trip being missed is it reinforces the need to make a meal of situations like that. If Laurie stays down or someone starts a fight we likely get a penalty and are likely playing against 12 for the next 10 minutes.

I want to give him credit for getting up and getting on with it, but it's just objectively the wrong play. Its the same story with a lot of these marginal high shots and crushers that happen in tackles. Its all well and good to call these guys cats but what are you supposed to do when these highly paid officials with cutting edge technology miss these things more often than not?
Couldn’t agree more with the bunker needing to go back and punish these acts.

it one of the few things I think union does well; I like the advantage rule (albeit think it is rubbish that they use it to pot files goals) and think it would be something we could use for foul play. Ie let the game go on, have the bunker check and then penalise at the end of the set.

I am not an Ashley Klein fan but I thought how the Sualli send of went the other night was too draw.

Alamoti's has been a welcome surprise to me. A great third choice kicker too.

Like Cole keeps stepping up. He and To'o are building something special.

Tago is struggling I believe because Suniva is all over the shop. Comes in on occasion in defence, then stays out. Iv noticed this. Wouldn't surprise me to see Mclean come in and give Suniva a spell. His knee is heavily strapped, (has been most of the year). Could do with a rest for a couple of weeks. Or time back in cup to work on a couple of things.
Im glad someone else saw sunny come in twice to help tago My old eyes weren't sure

I agree with most of his but I think you would find that Smith had shifted to the edge by that stage. I too thought he'd come out of position originally but then it occured to me that he might have been shift to the edge when Huth had come on, and judging by the positioning that is exactly what happened.

Still a great effort regardless. I am really pleased how both he and now Henry have stepped up.
Oh I was actually working so I just saw the highlights and saw the him there but fair enough.

I saw it as well, we had basically a new right side this year, Cleary has hardly played, To’o has moved to the left, Crichton has gone and Tago has moved to the right, if we can see what’s happening I’m sure Ivan can see it as well and is working on the problem

Im kinda over the tago bashing tbh.

Just looking at the numbers alone Alamontis defence has been worse than tago. Probably lucky he has brian outside him and luai inside who are both very good defenders. Throw in the fact soro and or Garner have been on that edge this year and they too are both very good defenders..

Whereas on the right, martins looks to have been down on form himself this year. Prior to origin had been quite. The 7/6 on that edge has changed all year. Nath, schnieder cole. Etc. No consistency.

I really watched our edge defence really closely on the weekend and i just think we are playing a little to compressed in the middle. Ivan is obsessed with the territory yardage game. So our middle defence really compacts for quick line speed and to dominate the ruck.

We just arent adjusting well on both sides. Theres doesnt appear to be a real structure..like we saw from critta in origin, when outnumbered he will slid backwards until the over lap is killed.

Both centres this year have had plenty of times where theyve been outnumbered this year..even on the weekend a lot of the tries down tagos side they were short..

And the issue is at some points in the game the centres are jamming and at other points they are hanging back and just no one is working in unison.

Both sides have been as bad as each other really its just luais side is full of class defenders to cover alamonti.

People seem to be throwing all the toys out the cot demanding changes. No one else in cup is ready for centre in the nrl..

Cole was terrible defending at centre in cup last year.

Ivan just needs to get the team working extra hard on unison and communication on the edges.

I have no doubt a fit martin and cleary massively fixes some of the issues.

Tago also is down on confidence. The kids young. It hasnt been all smooth sailing for him this year. We are 3rd on the ladder two points from top spot with plenty of time for tago to find his mojo in the back half of the year..

Plenty of positives can be taken out of things instead ppl just hammer on about the same thing.

For example prior to tago, luai was the whipping boy on here.

The amount of shit i read that he should be dropped etc etc was a joke. Look at him now..been one of our best this year and is killing it.

Sometimes you just got to let a player fight his way back into form. Its character building. At some point it will click for tago.. whether it be a good try or great tackle etc. He just needs a few things to go his way to break this cycle and things can turn round very quickly like they did for luai over the last 5-6 weeks.

No one is throwing the toys out with the cot or bashing Tago. His performances aren't up to standard

Alamoti is coming from a lower base. He was SG Ball eligible and is 26 games into his career as opposed to a 60 gamer who has won 2 comps in Tago.

As for Cole, He did struggle last year but he is sitting at just under 90% tackle rate this year. Playing in a position that is more difficult has made 1 error too.

So he looks to improve and is playing well and atm is less likely to come up with an error or a stupid penalty to cost us in a big game

Yes the right all has issues but Tago's tackle % is 82. So even when he is in a position to make a tackle he is missing more than his career.

He has also made 17 errors ( equal team high ) conceded 12 penalties which puts him 3rd in the comp.

In a comp that has some grubs in it he sits the 3rd most penalised.

So it is more than just looking in one area as to where Tago is struggling

I'm very confident that there'll be a time in which we'll be very happy we held on to Tago.
im hoping Tago gets dropped similar to Edwards - comes back a new player. There is definitely a good player in Tago and you'd be crazy to get rid of him - but repeated poor performances should warrant being dropped.

I believe that dropping players is good for the overall team - the standards are held up.

you have such a great success story in Edwards after being dropped - he would be the perfect player to help encourage that dropped player. Would help make them come back a better player etc

That is for me.

The club has backed Tago long term and this time last year, This would of been a great call.

I don't think the wrong decision was made, Just for whatever reason he is woefully out of form

Form can dip for so many reasons.
We have to remember there is a bit of turmoil in camp.
Young kids can get caught up in it very quickly.
He could be very close to May or Turuva, big fish and luai going, Nathan off the park could all be having an impact.
I’m very surprised we are travelling along so well, it has been a very bumpy season to date.

I can’t help but see the defensive problems tago is having, I think his line speed is to fast.

He is getting up into attacker’s faces looking for the big shot but people are getting around him after the first contact.

It was happening last year after his return from the pec injury, it doesn’t seem like he has got his grappling strength back.

So it is more than just looking in one area as to where Tago is struggling

According to our website he is sitting at 88.7%
Alamonti is at 84.1%.

Almonti is defending on a side which has been relativley stable all year.

He has luai inside him who is a renowned great defender as is too outside him.

Tago on the othwer hand has turuva whose been avg in defence and the halfs have shifted all year and none are nath in defemce. Throw in martin has had a slow start to the year..

Centre is the hardest place on the park to defend in terms of decision making. As i said cole got carved up there in nsw cup.

As youve said yourself casey mclean isnt ready. Jesse is a winger. Taylan cant play.

So you pin all your hopes on a rookie in cole at centre who was not good there at a way lower standard.

The issues really aremt dowm to one man. Its the structures are just a bit out.

Ive watched the tries they scored on tagos side closely and alamontis and its been the same story all year.. playing to middle heavy and just not readjusting and numbering up quick enough and its leading to bad reads or players jamming and just no unison.

Wont assess every try because its the same story over and over again but their first try-
Garners marked up on jurbo doesn't slide hard enough
Cole marked up on ben turbo and doesn't slide quick enough at all even the the block play is obvious
Tago and turuva left with a 3 on 2.. brooks and there centre are renowned speedsters.. so very hard spot to defend. Was to much room just to show them the sideline.. tago jammed uo and got no one and turuva hung back.

Really you could blame all 4 players and the players inside garner should be heaviky blamed.

But instead people just want to hammer tago.

Yes im not arguing hes down on form and confidence..

But if you actually look at a lot of the tries this year its been the same story over and over. We just arent numbering up well.

It was the same with the try on Alamontis side..they had numbers he didmt know what to do and got caught in absolute no mans land.

The issues are stemming from the inside and playing middle heavy with a very compressed defence.

Like i said maybe 4 weeks ago i think its very fixable and i dont really see one player as the issue. Its not a Tago issue..its a team issue.
