Round 4 Vs Warriors

Thinking more about the Luai/Burton situation, if Ivan goes with Luai at 5/8 then Burton to fullback makes the most sense. Gives us a genuine ball player back there, he’s fast and pretty big too. It’d be a brave selection but something I could really see working.

If we can get our backline right, we can make an impact in this comp. But it’s going to need some brave calls.

Our forwards are absolutely monstering it, to me it’s the perfect opportunity to take some risks with our backs. We lack speed & height, we probably don’t have any super fast guys but we’ve got several faster than Aekins, Mansour & Whare. We’ve also got plenty of guys taller.

I could definitely see Burton working at fullback in attack the problem is whether he can handle the defensive side of the game and all the extra running he will have to do, considering he has only played a few first grade games it will be a massive ask.

If anyone can handle it, it’s him. He looks super fit, and he’s quite a calm player. Plus he’s played on the wing in the juniors, so he’d have experience under the high ball.

Our backline just doesn’t have much punch at all, we need to find a way to fix that.

If he is capable of playing fullback it would solve a massive issue for us that’s for sure.

Having a genuine ball playing fullback would make a huge difference. Having Burton floating around the field would be a nightmare for the opposition plus it would take a lot of pressure off our halves. On his day Moylan was a match winner, and in my opinion Burton offers far more than Moylan.
A better kicking game, better defender and a bigger body.

Might work but he's a 6 and the best one we have. He might look elsewhere if he's not played in the halves.

I agree, he is our best 6. I would have luau at 14, Crichton at 1 and Naden in the centre’s , however, if Cleary leaves Luai at 6 , I would prefer Burton at 1 rather than being left out all together.

Depends what he thinks really. Pleanty of other clubs will throw huge cash and promise him a halves position.

Anyways I honestly think he'll be wearing the 6 next week
Fair enough. I'm not sure there's much difference (pay or profile) between 1 & 6.

Agree that he's shown more at 6 than Luai - but I think Nathan's opinion will decide our 6.

To win a comp you need to have your best 17 available if that means shifting Burton to include him in the squad I'm all for it.

When is May available? He’s not a hooker but I might be able to wear him there for the 15mins rest Api needs, then he can finish the game in the back row.

maybe just a 10min rest for Api.

2 tries from Burton - 1st one was a great kick / assist by Luai (after couple of poor bombs from Burton), 2nd try was good instinct but a lucky deflection. Terrific ball for Burns but again Luai was just as influential in that play.

He looked decent but the commentary team were riding him ridiculously hard the whole night which I think influenced people’s overall view of his performance. Granted Luai didn’t help himself with a couple of poor kicks in the last 10, I still think he looked the better for the majority of the game & the role needed outside Cleary is more suited to him than another organiser like Burton.

Not a bad issue to have though, I think they’re both capable.

May back this week both he and Cleary copped a 2 week suspension I like may on the bench can cover a number of spots.

For me Ivan should pick either of Burton or Luai at 6. May the best man win. I’m not a fan of picking players away from where they are best suited and I don’t see Burton as a 1 even if he has some experience there in the under 8’s for Dubbo.

May copped 5 matches from last years issue and 2 weeks from Cleary fiasco
Over the next few weeks should play Burton 14 then and use him as relief dummy half and give him some minutes at fullback to see how he goes. He’ll probably end up covering elsewhere after injuries too. He looks a Michael Morgan type build and skillset and we should find a place to plug him in.

Fullback has become one of the most important positions in the game, some of the games biggest stars play the position. I doubt he’d throw a tantrum over it.
