it did look like one of them had a sign but it was only really used when a group photo was taken

Hmmm... so they didn't really do much other than stand in the carpark?
I wonder how they were getting their point across...

Did anyone go down and explain to them that if they (and I reiterate THEY) want to get rid of Fitzgerald, (which seems the reason for the protest) that their best course of action is join the football and Leagues clubs?

correct! The photo Mits posted pretty much summed up the whole thing. Every one had left by 11.30

The funny thing was they had witches hats and security guards blocking the entrance to the stadium and you had to flash your leagues club membership card (like on game day) in order to park there

The club obviously expected a bigger turn out

Yes, His name is Alan Overton and he is the President of our Club and he went and spoke to them about joining and supporting the leagues club and all manner of subjects for a while.

In speaking with Chris Jurd, there was a concern that the protesters may try to interrupt club operations, maybe by blocking the entrances to the club or other things so a heightened security was in place

tbh at the time I thought maybe the soccer was on til we walked past the sign at the front of the stadium and realised it wasn't on til December

Thanks MITS. Did you ask what other subjects were discussed?

Maybe they weren't that motivated when only 25 people turned up?

After all, there's a lot more Parra Fans out there constantly b*tching about Fitzgerald, they probably expected more to show up and give a sh*t.

Saturday morning a lot of people work or have sport on, if they really wanted a big turn out then sunday would have been a better day.

AGM would have been the ideal day tbh. At least the audience you were trying to communicate with would be in attendance on the day at the actual club

Given the alleged numbers of football club members involved in the rally, the numbers would not have been many less

Yes he did,

He spoke about the club, how it is going, what you have to do if you want to a say. He was accused of calling Denis his son, he told me he corrected that comment and spoke about his relationship with Denis, He was asked about facilities at the club, which he spoke about the new enhancements and the like, he spoke about Sterlos being a nice bar, someone at that point said that it only opened at 5 pm and they had removed the TAB so it was crap now, he replied we removed the TAB because it took up floorspace, made no money and all anyone drank was water, and that Sterlos opens early in the day. I think he also spoke about the NRL side and what he wants for it, but my memory is a little hazy on that part of our discussion, Alan, Chris and I spoke for over an hour and a half.

I am a voting member. Have been for four years..Is it possible to cast a proxy? I live in the bush and won't be at the AGM..
Denis Fitzgerald would get MY vote. You can't blame Fitzy for the deeds of the players..He doesn't miss tackles or bomb tries. He doesn't get out on the piss and misbehave. He tells it like it is, and that gets up people's noses.
He is not a YES man, and you can't buy experience...

I wonder if the no proxies issue changes your opinion of Denis now, Parra Pete ?

Don't think it would mate - it was the lawyers who decided that. ;-)

Denis doesn't miss tackles or drop balls either. ;-)

if they didn't have the same theme it would've been even more of a failure than it sounds like it was

Mate to be honest at least this bloke had the balls to do something, right or wrong does not matter in my eyes ...

just like the sth meeting this year we have over what 5000 season ticket holders and only 50 turned up for the meeting ...

If anyone in here whinges about the administration of the club after all of this should just be quiet about it,

The truck driver didn't get much support from this, but you know what i respect the guy for having a crack at it.

There are a whole heap of people who talk the talk but have no idea how to walk the walk ...

Barty I usually agree with alot of what you say but I can't quite understand your thinking on this one.
No worries SC. I'm sure we won't always agree on everything, but I'll try and explain where I was coming from on this one.

How do you know they are not likely to think through what they want for the club? Maybe the rally will be a way to get them thinking? If they hear something that doesn't make sense than maybe they will be ready to hear something that does "make sense".
By the rally's publicity flyer/article, it was positioned a a rally to "oust Dennis", not one to think through anything more complicated than that in terms of the club. I suspect now reading that Ovo may have asked how many of them had thought their desires for the club through enough to do something about achieving it, he got an indication of 3-4 hands ackowledging they had become members. Whether the remaining 22 decided or were convinced to look into joining and follow through we won't know - but it they do then that is Ovo's doing, not the rally or its organiser.

What do you mean by "the club" should be doing more? Do you mean the Football Club? The Leagues Club? The NRL Club? Why would they want that?
Yes, yes and yes. Bascally I think any organisation (club, union, council/government, whatever) becomes stronger/better by promoting a real interaction and participation by its members. An organisation ready to do that will then reap benefits simply through sheer weight of scale if it seeks a broader, increasing membership over time.

The football club, the leagues club, our NRL team club/board thing - directors and management in general can all do more imo in terms of engaging fans/members on a regular basis, promoting possible membership options and then seeking those members opinion and favour - and drawing on their skills, talents, passion and expertise - the whole year round, not just making an effort when under pressure.

If it is a numbers game -why not these people?
My point is more that Hellsy and helpers have been the ones doing this over recent years with no support from the club, and the club not even realising what a trememdous resource for the future that has been created here. I think the suggestion was that Hellsy go and recruit at the rally, and I personally didn't think this rally where (assuming from the promotion) people participating would be interested in a very simplified goal (that in reality sits outside of the realm of memberships and elections) would be the best source of recruiting people willing to go deeper into things or participate in an ongoing basis.

Anyway, it looks like Ovo on behalf of the club(s) got down there and told the 22 ralliers who perhaps didin't know how they can take part in the running of the club, so that's a start - presuming a few of those 22 might be inclined to follow through something a lot different to simply turning up for a carpark rally.

In my opinion a rally isn't/wasn't the best way to have a whinge about the administration of the club. Especially when the publicity for it was so simplified with a general personality-based rather than reasoned message/goal.

I think people should be entitled to not keep quiet about things if they feel like it, regardless of whether they attended this rally or - as seems the case of the vast majority of equally passionate Parra fans - chose not to.

i wonder if any "journos" (for want of a better word ) turned up to cover it - or if they just helped give these dudes a false sense that they might achieve something and then hang em out to dry?
Think you got it in one there Strides. It apparently started via the Graeme Hughes radio show, and was covered by the Terrorgraph, all just to give them something to try and fill their airtime/pages in the off season.
