Oh no brah he is nowhere near as gun as the following guns who have batted for Australia in recent times

Khawaja
Cowan
Watson
Rogers
M Marsh
S Marsh
Bailey
Maxwell

Matt Wade hang your head in shame young fella for having less batting talent than those guns above you, you're a disgrace.

You forgot the great rob quiney

yeah, he failed badly yesterday, we should drop him

Good to know you think its alright to hand out the Baggy green cap willy nilly to people to bat at number 6 for Australia who only average 29 in first class cricket, don't worry about players earning there cap, lets just hand it out to any old Wazn and hope they turn into Andrew Flintoff.

Batting at number 6 for Australia with a first class average of 29,what a disgrace.

You would make a fantastic Aussie selector, hand in your resume asap.

Hate to say it, but Hughes too

Top order has been NZ-like at times

As an aside, is Warner viewed as captaincy material?

I don't view him as captaincy material. He strikes me as a player whose game would suffer with the added responsibility.

Smiffy is the next captain for mine. Leads by example and holds himself to a very high standard.

Yeah, Smith seems the obvious one...

Warner is a terrific player, and impressing me more and more in other areas...

Warner is a rare talent. If you told me he was going to become a regular Test player when burst out on the T20 scene those years ago, I'd have laughed you out of the room.

His transformation into a mainstay of the Test team has been great to watch, not to mention his climbing average.

Yep lets pick a mediocre all-rounder to bat at number 6 to make our batting lineup even weaker.

Chris Rogers(Very average limited player)
Shane Watson(Hopeless)
Injured Clarke
Haddin(looking for a retirement home)

Its all good bro,Warner and Smith will make tons every game for the rest of there lives and save us.

I agree with Haynetrain. If you were to pick between M Marsh and Wade on batting ability alone I would take Wade. However I would like Marsh in the team at 6 so we have a 5th bowling option and find someone else to bat at 3 instead of Watto.

Our biggest problem is that we will need to find a new opening batsman, a new keeper, hopefully a new number 3 and possibly a new number 4 and captain in the very near future if Clarke continues to have all these injury problems. That's a lot of change to happen at the same time

Your point is not a bad one, but at the end of the day do you have many options?

As per the lists above, it's not a vintage era for Australian batsmen at present - Smith and Warner have recently emerged as very good, Haddin and possibly Clarke past their best (and Clarke a champ at home, ordinary away)...

The players that have occupied the other spots - Doolan, Khawaja, Cowan, Rogers, Hughes, Quiney, Marsh(s), Bailey etc etc just are not terribly good players...

M Marsh has at least looked solid in a few tests, and has promise...

Who would you suggest?

Can everyone who doesn't follow Sheffield Shield f**k off with their opinions on selection.
Just looking at stats tells you nothing, you need to actually watch them play.

If we win in Adelaide, I would like to drop Rogers for Burns to blood him on his home track and is somewhere I can't see India winning so there isn't too much pressure on him. If Clarke is injured S Marsh will have to come into the team IMO because there isn't really any other middle order batsman scoring a lot of runs. I would also like Cowan to replace Watson but I would hold back on that because I wouldn't want to make too many changes at once

I would to remind all of you who are banging on about Matthew Wade and his exceptional batting talent, that after 47 ODIs where he has predominantly batted in the top six he has an average of TWENTY-TWO.

Oh yes, pick this man for his batting skill.

Really hoping Smithy can go on and make a big hundred today. We need minimum 450, but if he goes early we won't even get to 400. Very disappointing final hour yesterday has left us vulnerable.

Derp, you do realise i have been saying that Matt Wade is the best of the keeper batsmen despite the fact that Peter Neville has a better first class a batting average right? anyone who watches Wade play can see that he is a more talented dynamic stroke player and a good example of stats not always telling the whole story.

Rogers has really regressed in the past few months. On a bat friendly wicket and average bowlers, Rogers should have been able to get set quickly and comfortable, instead he scratched around and looked out of his depth.

Watson has to go. Should never have been there

And unless Siddle can bag at least 6 wickets for the match, he too should get the arse.

I think if you're going to make a heap of changes, do it early in the series and hopefully the newcomers will be settled before the end of the series.

Haddin has got to be close to getting the arse too.

With Johnson, Harris and Siddle all more than capable batters, 400 should be achievable even if he gets out the first ball he faces. I would be looking at pushing well past 450 and closer to 500 if he goes on to a big score

Also, I don't want a keeper batsmen, I want a keeper who can take catches, get stumpings and have f**k all byes.

Batting is a bonus, but at the end of the day, keeping, like pace bowling and batting is a specialty role.

Sure it'd be great if every player was a McGrath or Warne with the ball and a Ponting or Tendulkar with the bat and capable of keeping like a Marsh or Healy.

But that's NEVER going to happen.

So get off this wankery over all-rounders, and pick specialist performers.

pick the 4 best bowlers, best keeper and 6 best batsmen.

if some of them happen to be capable all rounders, then great.

Siddle has struggled with the bat for a while though and you don't want to be relying on blokes like Johnson and Harris with the bat.

Ah well, just have to wait and see. I think our bowlers will be pumped up so 400 could be plenty.

Smith will dig in early and settle the innings, if he gets set and Notch, Harris and Siddle all have a go, 480-500 is very much attainable.
