Haddin has 99 runs in his last 11 innings at an average of 9.90

The 95 times that Watson has got out, 26 have been LBW, 12 have been bowled, 13 have been caught behind and 2 have been stumped. Those are the sort of stats you expect to see for a top tail-ender.

Rogers has 276 runs in his last 11 innings (which includes 107 v Sth Africa) at an Avg of 25.09

Not as a good a call as saying "A batsman has the same ability whether it's a Test or an ODI" though, that will be hard to beat.

He does, he doesn't all of a sudden forget how to hold the bat does he, all that changes is his role. If we were going to do things that way we would have written Warner off as ever being a Test player.

You do have the same ability in ODI and Test. Your technique, footwork, strengths and weaknesses are still the same. Both formats require different approaches which requires an adjustment in attitude in how the innings is approached (and not forgetting the way the team fielding plays also changes significantly between the formats,) although you see batsmen like Gayle or Warner treat their innings with little difference, be it Test, ODI or T20.

seems that there's some chance Clarke is going to play on, possibly joining Smith at the crease to start play.

Smith just spoke with Grandstand and said Clarke was getting some injections.

Players like Warner and Gayle are successful at Test level because their technique is good enough, Warner is all power and plays his shots with conviction but his technique is good enough.

You get a guy like Maxwell who is an eye player, has little footwork but excels in the shorter format on flat pitches made for the purpose of exciting the fans with big sixes. He failed at Test level, quite miserably too. The same with Finch but not to that extent, I feel he could be successful at Test level if he gets his head over the ball a bit more instead of hitting every ball in the air.

the rest of your post was irrelevant

Unfortunately we have a weak batting lineup which is why picking a specialist keeper could be dangerous hence why i have been going on about Matt Wade's batting.

Specialist keeper is all sweet and dandy when you have 6 great batsmen in front of you in which we most certainly do not,we need a keeper batsmen and Wade is the best(batsmen)

Come forth Mr Wade, its your time.

I think batting with Smith this morning is the best option if he does play on. Coming in at the end with Siddle won't do much good.

Your entire argument is blatantly stupid.

If we have a keeper who takes all his opportunities, then the opponents will score less runs than if we have a keeper who drops chances and misses stumpings which allows opponents to score more runs.

And if there's less runs required to score, than a keeper who can bat is less of a requirement.

Thus, a better keeper is more important than a shit keeper who can bat marginally better.

You can try, but you will never win this argument.

Neville is significantly better keeper though, and he can bat when he wants to (FC average of 41.)

Agree with Madunit, pick the 6 best batsmen, the best keeper, and the 4 best bowlers.

f**k this all rounder fetish we have. We will never find our own Kallis.

This 'all rounder fetish', as you described it, started after the 2005 Ashes tour when our selectors thought we could unearth our answer to Andrew Flintoff....Watson was the first choice the next summer (2005/06) but all went pairshaped from the moment he dislocated his shoulder in that first test vs West Indies.
