This is a lovely looking stadium

a lovely looking stadium....with an AFL-inspired drop-in pitch.

MCG and Adelaide now use drop-in pitches, and the AFL have been putting pressure on the SCG and Gabba managements to implement them, just so it's more 'convenient' for their players during the footy season. They need to be told to go and get stuffed!

Chris Rogers is a pretty decent player not given a regular shot till late 30's, rather than at his peak. I wish a few more around Aus cricket had his particular skill set but were a good ten years younger. Maybe Silk will prove to be that player. The way Rogers is going though he seems unlikely to last beyond the summer

Rogers made his debut in 2008, before he was exiled from the side until the 2013 Ashes.

I agree, there were many players in Shield cricket who didn't get a crack until later in the career (e.g. Hussey didn't make his test debut until 30).

Pretty sure the SCG Trust has told the AFL to get stuffed as has the Gabba.

You can predict that the AFL whinge about the grounds will come up in April like it does every year.

Clarkie looks so much better technique wise when he stands up straight, he used to crouch over when he batted and I just wonder if that has contributed to his back problems.

The thing is, cricket has been played at these venues for far longer than AFL has. Also, since the Swans and Lions started playing at the SCG and Gabba respectively, it has only been recently that the AFL has started to kick up a big stink over the issue, just so their 'precious' players are protected.

The MCG introduced drop-in pitches in the early '90s IIRC. Until then, it used to be a good bowling wicket and difficult to score off (hence why many cricket fans that are 40+ yrs old say that Kim Hughes 100* vs West Indies in the 1981 Boxing Day test was one of the best innings, let alone best centuries ever scored at the MCG).

If smiify gets there he will have 5 hundreds in 22 tests, 1 more than Watson in 52 tests.

Watson could have been a quality contributor @ 6, but thinks he is Bradman.

Quite a few 50's and the odd hundred is what you want, partnered with the odd wicket, that is what he supplied.

But number 3 should be scoring 100s, 200s...................he does not, and does bowl much.
