yep i really dont get why people think that more men follow footy, because it just ain't true.
its almost a negative stereotype, people that support the game properly know that there is a great female interest in the game

see guys always say 'i just want a chick that drinks beer and loves footy' but when they are presented with that alot of them feel really insecure and threatened. when i find a guy that isn't, ill marry him.

my wife loves footy as much as I do.

hates beer, but then again I don't like it either, so that works fine.

I only feel threatened by her when she threatens me with violence (happens for about a week every month, strangely)

To be fair if you ask a lot of guys, they would prefer to drink beer and watch footy with their mates. But i can understand what you are saying, not many of my mates would want to hang out with a beer drinking footy loving chick. Not sure if its insecurity as such or just that they wanna hang with girls who are into girlie things and spend their guy time with mates. That is the case for me, i try to watch the sunday footy with my mates as much as i can and i just wouldn't be as attracted to that prospect if it was with girls.

hahahah i threaten people with violence when the Dragons lose :sarcasm:

tig3r honestly mate, that makes me sad. that you can't factor in women into your footy watching. it doesn't have to be separate. why is footy 'guy time'?? that is absurd. this is what i'm talking about with insecurity being related to sexism.

if a guy is confident in himself he won't be intimidated or uncomfortable by watching footy with a chick. my mates certainly aren't, but i dont want to date any of them. catch 22 for me.

My missus is a Victorian who has embraced the Dragons and Rugby League.

Matty Cooper did help with winning over the heart and mind of this particular heathen.

Anyone looks good in the Red V though, don't they. :)

Its a timing issue, me and most of my mates are busy during the week, we catch up on the weekends and watch footy... it is a joyous occasion, with no sadness. I watch footy with girls sometimes, its just that (and i only speak for myself here) i need a time where its just guys and we can talk free of the judgement and censorship required around women

my wife hates RL - and its a huge pain in the arse when I want to sit and watch it and she wants to watch some reality tv crapola or whatever...

however - to be honest, I don't want a chick who 'drinks beer and watches footy' either - and my mates are in agreeance. Any chick who is in to that we've got no dramas hanging out and watching a game - but they are 'mates' and not really seen as gf material.

so I don't agree that most blokes want that. it's not that we feel disempowered or anything - its like women wanting their blokes to be part of their weekly girls catch up at the coffee shop - that's her time to talk sh*t and socialise.
Footy is my time, and other blokes see it the same way as a social event for the boys..

doesn't make them intolerant or sexist or anything like that

everyone needs an escape from the world. I generally spend it drinking with the mates on a Friday or Saturday night but still I can watch the footy with my girlfriend if nothing else is on. Girls that are mates who watch the footy are as passionate as anybody as well

seriously tho, the problem is finding someone with credibility and also the ability to be engaging on TV.

This.

As long as it's not a token effort, and having a woman on the show just "for the sake of it". Because that's just as insulting to the real women who know their sh*t as it is the viewers that are watching.

One positive example is the chick that does the cricket commentary in South Africa (her name escpaes me). She's an explayer, she knows the game, and has the media skills to give accurate ball-by-ball commentary. If all female commentators were like her, I wouldn't have a problem. However, some like Rebecca Wilson, and the Lady Lucks, quite simply have no knowledge of the game.

Don't worry dude.

You're not missing much. Just a few women rampaging about who obviously forget their rightful place in society. :sarcasm:
