You've got to think that been snubbed for the GF after being a regular in the squad would have soured Hosko towards staying with us.

Good luck to him nevertheless, he was a very solid contributor to our 2023 success.

Is Garner able to play more positions than Hosking,(injury cover) is he a better fit for the team ?

I can't imagine it was any more than that. I don't think he had many other options if any. 3 years on 300ish is good business for him and I assume Canberra.

Good for us too as another one being turned from a nobody to someone teams want.

Yeah you'd think it is Canberra. A good replacement for CHN

Yeah, Dogs f**ked that up big time. Same as the kid they poached from the Broncos and now he will be out for over a year with a serious neck injury. Not every gun kid is ready for the big show without some cup time. Ones like Nathan, Sualli etc are the exception, not the rule.
He'll be ready this year.

I’d say it’s more for family reasons like a deal that brings stability with a longer term contract on higher wage that ultimately swayed him.

Doubt missing the GF when he wasn’t at 100% is the reason.

Panthers now have another top 30 spot available and some extra cash to spend on next man in.

Further to this, it has been discovered he had a pre-existing spinal condition which is career threatening. Would be interesting to know if that was something they missed in his pre-signing medical or just bad luck? If it's the former, it further highlights the rushed approached Bulldogs take in trying to manufacture immediate success, evidenced by the scattergun recruitment for 2024.

Canberra have acquired themselves exactly that, a good solid contributor, who also has a few wildcard skillful moments. Good pickup for them.

So true. Great post. The dogs don't seem to have an actual plan. Is this Gus or the board's doing ?

You would hope it's bad luck, but they are under so much pressure to have anything that even looks like a win they will sign anything that makes them look good in the papers no matter how stupid it is in comparison to what they need.

It's like Gus has gone polar opposite of what he did here when he first arrived. Some of his early signings weren't making headlines, but he nailed pretty much all of them as far as what we needed.

Hosking was Ivan's dream player.

Undersized, not quick, slow acceleration.

Pure distilled plod.

He even got to play centre like all Cleary plodders.

I wish him well, he did play pretty well given the inherent plodness.
Garner was looking pretty good towards the end of the year and clearly won the spot

He was never sour towards the club.
Garner was preferred over him for the last two games because he gave better cover for Tago. That was the reason.
Hosking knew that and accepted it without any dramas.

The club has done the right thing by him. We could have kept him this year but due to tough competition he may not have played as much FG as he would have liked.
He now will play more FG and has signed the best contact in his career. Good luck to him.

Ha ha, Love your blind optimism. Not sure if he will be ready for a little while, needs a tonne of defensive work. But at least we know if Ivan throws him in he will be ready at that point.
We're talking about Ivan here, he'll be ready. I can imagine the Fisher-Harris and Leto, would have taken Paul under their wings

Doing right by these guys when it's a minor thing is good for the club's rep amongst playes.
