Lesson learnt. You can't win a mind game battles against Bennett and Hasler. Better to play a straight bat or give them some BS praise.
It's just recency bias over who had the last say. Ivan had a reasonable point about Nathan. Bennet had a point about blockers but just got the last say on week 1.

I feel a lot of coaches will cut and paste the side and don't take the 17 seriously.
BA generaly names the sides he plans to roll out. IVAN often makes changes. He woukd know who he plans on playing but doesn't take it that seriously is all. I doubt he is thinking he may trick other coaches.

Most fans these days have enough access to know who will play. Id be suprised if JFH does for example. But reckon Nathan's a high chance.

Everyone thinks its mind games but its only mind games for the fans.

Not hard for parra to send someone 20mins down the road to watch a training run mid week and work out whoever is no chance if they wanted to and im sure in big games.

I think most on here make more out of it than theres to it.

Yeah ivan likes to protect rookies etc with keeping it secret, but for the most part alot of his late changes etc are just players moving from the bench to starting or vice versa. Or there someone coming into the 17 who was in the squad anyway.

And do people really think nrl teams and coaches worry that much about it?

Take this weekend for example. They will be preparing for fish and sorensen to play...
If they dont and hopgood and whoever come in well than theyve spent the whole week preparing for two better players to play anyway. Theyll have talked all week about what to do if SOS runs out or if nathanruns out.

Personally i think ivan doesnt really put to much thought into the 17 or full squad when its named. He has to name the number they do being 24. And top squad is 32. Automatically you can rule out blokes who are definitley unfit in your squad or just returning from injury (eg. Geyer, riki, leota, too). Than you can rule out others who definitley arent there yet or are behind heaps of others (eg, blacker, turuva, critchon, jenkins,).

Not like it leaves up heap of choices given you have to name the number you do..just taking out those names ive mention literally only leaves 24...

Than as an oposition coach this week you could rule out luke as api and kenny are fit. But i really dont think many if any nrl coaches are stressing about our 1-17..nor do i think its mind games all the time.. maybe here and there hes strategic but for the most part he just names who we have available and picks a team probs on friday morning with whose right to go

The whole coaching mind games is a bit of a non event in my opinion. Just as we prepare for all possible outcomes against our opponents, they do likewise. I’ve never felt it means too much in the scheme of things.

Should be a tough game against the Knights, both teams have a few injury concerns. Be nice to come away with the two points and go 3-0.

As I’ve said many times I’m not personally into sports betting but a friend of mine (not a Panthers fan) is rather confident his multi of a $100 Knights into the Bulldogs to win $1600 is a certainty. Both the Knights and Bulldogs paying $4. I so hope he is wrong on his first game any way.

Panthers $1-25 Knights $4-00. I just can’t see the game at that odds. I hope so, but Panthers way under the odds.

Knights at $4 seem like a good buy.

But always remember, gamble responsibly.

More likely media doing this rather than another club. They are better at it.

After thinking about it, not too unhappy to see these 3 missing. Carrington Park is going to be a very heavy track. Martin with a slight leg injury needs not to be playing in a potential mud track, same with Fish and Cleary. Especially when you remember Wallace did his ACL at that ground.

When I've been there at the ground, the council had to get workers out at half time to replace some divets in the ground.

With predicted rain, it will be a mud pit on Saturday.

All will be right before next week I imagine.

Saturday's game will be tough without Fish and Martin, especially when you add in Leota.

I imagine Hopgood comming in, Smith too.
