So what changed from

He will play when we know he is 100%

to now?

Either he is right or he isn't

That doesn't contradict what I said. They could wait for the captains run like often happens and if he moves freely then the 100% box is ticked and he plays.

The one I thought was weird was naming Leniu to start and shifting on game day unless it was a symbolic thing to let him know Ivan rates him or something.

It's idiocy that they haven't. I'd buy more than 1 jersey a year if they had their own number and name on it. The NRL is losing millions by not doing it

I have a young nephew and son just starting to get into footy.

They met Crichton so he is the favourite player. Of course want him on their jersey but he always changes.

Individual numbers stop that also

Same with Kiks in the last 5 or so games last year. Coaches knew he was going to play. Coaches knew what he could do so I don't see the point

Girds was always number 3 to me. It wouldn't look right seeing him wear the number 4.

Individual numbers is a great idea from a marketing stand point. MJ is 23, Kobe Bryant changed his later to 24 (I wonder why).

This is what I find a bit strange in regards to mind games conversation, do people really think Ivan is swapping a prop named to start with a bench prop as some kind of mind game to fool opposition coaches? Like that one change of props is going to change anything the opposition does? To me it is something far more likely to be internal as you have suggested, maybe Leniu just didnt prepare as well as he Ivan would've liked or something along those lines. To me the least likely thing is Ivan swapping Leniu and Eisenhuth in the hope it somehow has fooled the opposition in someway. Calling it mind games is massive stretch, its pretty common for forwards to be switched from named on the bench to starting and vice versa.

People called it on Tuesday it would happen
As with Kiks last year

A player being ill through the week is different circumstances

Take Round 1.
That would of been perfect time to announce Nathan is playing. Put him in 7 only for him to drop out an hour before the game.

That would of really taken the pressure off SOS which is why Ivan said he played along with it.

As Smug said. He may need or want to hide a debut or an injury and doing it every week makes it hard when the time comes

Why are you letting this seemingly 'get to you'.

If Penrith are winning the majority of their games (which they have been doing this for the last 2 years)

It doesn't matter.

I don't care if Ivan cross dresses during media interviews, and talks like a glove puppet. It all means naught if the team are winning.

I get the feeling you're looking for things to be outraged about.

Every player recovers differently, we are talking about 1 week. They won't risk him if he's not ready, if he's good to go, why not come back a week early. They will make a decision that is right for Nath without your evidence.

We will win this game with or without him. It is Round 3. Hopefully have 27 more weeks of the season to go.

So if he isn't fit enough to be named on Tuesday then just wait

Who cares....(obviously you do), Why is it so important ?

So if there's an incident late in the week, (injury) a player shouldn't be replaced, because he wasn't named there on Tuesday.

Frankly Lamback your comment makes no sense.

Let's talk about the real hot topic from Team List Tuesday - Harry Grant named at #9 at 4pm. Then at 4:45pm, is announced to have COVID, and is out of the game.

Why bother naming him them? It's just burning a spot in your usable squad.

They have also named Brandon Smith at #23 - less than two weeks removed from a broken hand. Surely he's not right to go.

So they're left with Tyran Wishart at #14, Jayden Nikorima at #21 and possibly Nick Meaney at #19 to cover their Hooker rotation. And none of them are gonna get the job done against a big and mobile Eels pack.

So either:
a) Grant doesn't have COVID and will play
b) Smith has recovered and will play
c) The JOB Squad will fill the gaps and they'll lose

But if elite coaches don't play games, does that mean Bellamy is no longer elite?

f**k my head is starting to hurt

But why is that an issue i really dont get it? If we ran out as named every week everyone is going to know who is playing and in what position so what is the issue if people can call a minor team change to the named side? Either way people are going to know so why does it matter as long as our results are good. Its just the coaches preference to do it that way so really I dont get how it could be a negative in anyway its just his coaching style imo.

Girds was number 13 when they ran individual numbers in 1997.

As Smug said. The guy who cried wolf

Lets assume Turuva is going to debut for Edwards. The club wants to keep it quiet so name Edwards 1 to cover it.

If there are changes every week then it gets worked out early. It is best to save it until it is needed.

As it does nothing 95% of the time

Teams get submitted at 2pm but released at 4pm

Covid is tricky. Grant missed training but if he tests negative you can't play him that week - they should allow exemptions for those cases

Wishart is out too. Close contact

Smith on Fox Sports is listed as rounds 3-4

Massive stretch, you are never going to hide a debut when the team is named on Tuesday. If there is some injury concern about edwards and Turuva is named on the bench and is still there after the team is cut any decent coach is going to expect there is good chance turuva will play.

Years ago you could have. Not now with the extended squads named.

I remember in the late 90's Brandy was injured for awhile. It might have been 98 or 99. Against Cronulla. He wasn't named mid week. It was a complete shock to everyone when his name appeared on the team sheet 1 hour before kick-off. We ended up drawing the match.
Those days you could shock and surprise with team lists. Make a few dollars too if you had the information ;)

I would go as far as names on the back. I don't want individual numbers. Bad enough now trying to explain to the Misses who plays where.

I have kids learning it
They know Luai is 6 for example but not that he plays halves
