The Really Early NSW Team 2012 Thread That Will Be Hated By All!!!

Agreed. Hayne, Uate, Gallen, Watmough, Lewis, Bird for sure. Everyone else is debatable. For what it's worth, here's my team: 1. B. Stewart 2. Gordon 3. Jennings 4. Hayne 5. Uate 6. Soward 7. Pearce 8. Gallen 9. Farah 10. Galloway 11. Scott 12. Lewis 13. Bird 14. Mannah 15. TLL 16...

Win/loss record for NSW players in Origin

Out of curiosity (and because I haven’t seen it listed anywhere else) I decided to look up the win/loss record in State of Origin since 2006 for all NSW players. I’ve left out players who are retired or playing overseas. I've also left out any wins/losses since before 2006. The source is...

    Hopoate gone for 6...now who?

Although I reckon Lewis would do a fine job at center, I'd be a bit reluctant to move him there just because he's so valuable when he has latitude to roam in the middle of the field. e.g., he wouldn't have been in a position to nail Cronk from behind during that Queensland break if he had been...

What a terrible week in Rugby League

I think it's a real shame that we're stuck with ANZ stadium as the NRL's number one ground. As you pointed out, it's just not designed for rugby league. The crowd are a long way from the action, and even when it's full it doesn't seem to generate the same atmosphere as a proper rectangular...

Is this Mitchell Pearce's last chance in Origin?

For the long term I think Campese and Carney have the greatest potential out of any halves combination for NSW. Both can run at the line, have a good passing game, and can kick long. Campese brings strength and solid defence, and Carney brings speed and unpredictability. Each player led his...

worst nsw bench in origin history?

I'm not a massive fan of Creagh and I would prefer to have Lewis there (if fit) or Watmough. HOWEVER.... I don't think Creagh is getting a fair go in this forum. He has played 5 games for NSW and scored 4 tries -- equal top tryscorer with Hayne for NSW for the last two Origin series. And...

Post your NSW side (squad of 30 or near)

It's depressing...even though 90% of the fans on this site can agree (more or less) on the best team for NSW, the actual NSW selectors will still end up going with something completely different and worse. Like Gidley at 5/8, Idris on the bench, Waterhouse at prop, etc.

The Really NSW 2011 thread that will be hated by all!

Great team, but isn't Lewis still out with injury? If Lewis is unavailable, I'd put Scott there in the second row. As someone pointed out in an earlier post, he can keep an eye on Soward and keep him out of trouble on defence. Although I'm not a fan of Gidley, I think he needs to be on the...

The Really NSW 2011 thread that will be hated by all!

That's a solid lineup in positions 1 to 5. Actually, that's a pretty good lineup all in all -- there's nobody there who really doesn't deserve to be there. I'd probably swap Hunt out for Watmough because I think there are enough new players in that team already, and Watmough has always...

    NSW Blues Prop Crisis

I'd be happy with all of that. Admittedly it's a pretty inexperienced prop rotation but it's not as though previous NSW props (Weyman, King, Kite, White, Perry, etc.) were getting the job done.

The Really NSW 2011 thread that will be hated by all!

You're right and I don't think anybody would disagree that Lyon is a superb player for his club. But he must have played at least a dozen games for NSW now, and as I said I can't recall any game where he's been anything more than a reasonably solid center. (Again, I might be wrong, but I...

The Really NSW 2011 thread that will be hated by all!

Out of curiosity, why would you pick Lyon? (Same question to anyone else who would have him in the NSW team.) He's had plenty of opportunities with NSW but I don't recall him ever having much impact on the game. He doesn't strike me as the kind of player who Qld would worry about facing up...

    Crowd at Kogarah Yesterday

Doesn't all the revenue from the finals games go to the NRL, not to the club? That being the case, is it possible the club would have deliberately understated the figure and kept the revenue from the other 4000 tickets for itself? :D (Good luck to them if they did and got away with it!)...

    Awesome work! But....

Not surprising Mogg was better since we played him in his proper position! It's still a worry that we can't put teams away -- we had every opportunity to win that 30-16 or 36-16, not 24-22. We must be the only team in the NRL that can't get a repeat set even after forcing a drop-out... And...

Pick your core NSW side to build around

Out of players who have played for NSW already, I would keep the following as the nucleus for Game 3 and beyond: Hayne B. Morris Jennings Pearce Weyman Farah Gallen Watmough TLL Lewis What each of the above players has in common is either: (1) he has played at least a couple of good games...

    Your NSW Game 2 Lineups?

My thoughts on how to improve the team without making too many drastic changes: * Gidley can NOT stay at fullback -- he's ineffective in attack, and he's not even that solid in defence. It's debatable whether he's even good enough to be in the team, but realistically they won't drop him...

    Win vs Dragons

Was anybody else as frustrated as I was with the offside penalty against Vidot? The Raiders player (Joel Thompson?) went for a tackle, the Dragons player dropped the ball, and the tackler may or may not have had a hand in it -- and even if he did, it's not obvious that he was playing at the...

Galea and Mataora back for Dragons

Does anybody know what happened to Waddell? Is there a reason he's not on the bench? I didn't get to see the game against the Storm, but I don't remember hearing about any injury to him...

    Bellamy was not happy

Absolutely spot on. I can only remember one game in recent years where Queensland played a non-specialist in one of those positions, when they put K. Hunt at 5/8. Queensland lost that game. Unlike NSW, they learned their lesson and never made that mistake again.

    NSW Origin side 2010

I know we all like to criticize the NSW selectors but we really shouldn't. It's just that we resent them because they are so much more intelligent, insightful, and brilliant than we are. They see and understand and respond to things in a way that we mere mortals could never hope to emulate...
