NRL Rd 27 2023 - General Non-Warriors Thread

So here we are, near the end, of the season we never want to end. 'We' meaning Warriors fans, of course.

Let's start with the bye, my deep Parra mole met me in our usual spot this week (my workplace) and came to 'wish me luck for the finals'! What a turnaround! I've spent the last few years talking about Parra's chances and now it's us. What a feeling.

Tonight, Broncos host Melbourne. It should've been a marquee game but both sides are taking the soft/pre-cautionary option of resting players pre-finals. It's been a long season, good on them, but there's still a lot to play for - the minor-premiership for starters, plus who other sides play in week one of the finals.

Friday, Manly and the Tigers. The latter had so much hope in the pre-season but their season was a disaster. If they finish with a win, watch pre-season training attract thousands again! Manly? The coach might be the issue. It was tough following on from Dessie. The Rabbitohs v Roosters will lack a bit of bite now that the villians - Mitchell and Waerea-Hargreaves - are out.

Saturday, Penrith are going all out to end the Cowboys' season, whilst testing combinations and game-day moves, as they push for another minor and major premiership. The Dolphins? After some early excitement they just get a solid pass mark for their first season, and there's a chance for a good win to end it, with the Warriors' eyes firmly on bigger things.

The Dragons are good enough to burst Newcastle's - now Ponga-less - bubble. However, the Knights have done so well to storm into the finals.

Sunday, GC v Canterbury, two poor seasons about to end and we finish with a beauty, the Sharks hosting Canberra. The Raiders must win, the Sharks need to in order to gain some credibility for the big game/s ahead.

This round will be some ride! Like the 2023 season in general. Enjoy.

Broncos let that half slip.
Pap looked a bit slow vs the kid Sua Fa'alogo
Gee, it's a lively game though. You can tell there's a bunch of upstarts playing!

22-20, Brisbane. 17 mins left.

Edit: back to 13 on 13, with Reimis Smith back on then he scores! 26-22, Storm back in front! This will be a fun ride home.

Minor prem up for grabs if Panthers can beat Cows.
We need to beat Dolphins to hold 3rd spot.
Still no idea who we are playing next week!

Resting players is a big opportunity missed for Brisbane there, haven’t beaten the Storm since 2009 and will continue to carry that baggage into a potential meeting next week or further down the track

Same for us, let's beat the Dolphins and finish third, then hit Brizzie in week one. But we've sent a B-team over.

Playing Penrith won't work out for us. We lost 25-12 to them in the 2018 final. This one could be worse.

Really entertaining game yesterday and good to see a few potential superstars that we wouldn’t see otherwise.

Sailor would be a starting fullback in a lot of other teams. Bulldogs desperately need a fullback.

Sua Fa'alogo looks like a future superstar.

Jakes 200th tonight, just watched the jersey presentation, anybody that doesn’t get up for him and have a go tonight should be shown the exit, what a great bloke

Really looking forward to the late game tonight, and keeping a close eye on Radley

If we beat the Dolphins, we play the Broncos...unless Penrith win

I hope he doesn't end up like ET, loyalty to one club but no premiership at the end of it. He deserves one, of course.

Koula and Saab are fun to watch. 12 Linebteals so far and still 20 to go

lol how good is Jake, DCE going in to score a try and he comes flying up yelling for the ball and DCE gives him a try

This female ref is awful, missed 2 clear forward passes for tries

then young Gordon figured he’d try the same with Saab and got a meat pie too. Great way to finish for Manly, sad end for Tim Sheens coaching career though.

Not giving her an excuse, but 2 touchies missed it as well! I do wonder what touchies are doing sometimes?
