Well, it's half time and the eels have a good lead (18-4) over the warriors, the spoon is all but certain now, if it wasn't already.

It's shit right. We've had a dud year. Benji has been poor. The recruiting has been poor and the retention has been poor since we lost Stef even though he is an overpaid non entity at this point.

I really hope they turn it around next year but geez they need to make good signings and recruitment decisions.

We were in the box seat to miss it as we have a bye up our sleeve( as far as I'm aware) and the eels don't

Well, we have 5 rounds left, to avoid a 3rd spoon:(

Newcastle
Rabbits
Manly
Bye
Parra

Our points differential imo, means we need at least 2 wins plus the bye to get in front of Parra.
Providing of course, Parra don’t win any more games.

Though the Rabbits and Parra games give us a slim chance.

Parra do have a tough last 5 games.
Penrith
Roosters
Broncos
Drags
Us- the battle for the spoon

Next year:(

We could be in for a blood bath that final game. We have conceded 50 five times in the final round since 2014, and having the week off in Round 26, I'd imagine the players will have well and truly clocked off.

Another shit year, but to be completely honest I was expecting this. There were some massive positives that came out of it in Galvin, TPS, Porter and the Fainu brothers, then it was great to see Bula, Api and Pole continuing their form. Add in Luai and Turuva and we are starting to see a team that will lift itself off the bottom 4.

We have huge cap space for 2025 so I expect to see some signings coming through. Hearing Corey Horesburgh is on our radar, and some players in England rumoured to be Richo targets.

They won't be laughing when the spoon drawer is so full they can't all fit in.

The team with the worst roster in the competition is looking like a title we will hold onto as well.
It's the most depressing aspect of our failures, continually having a crap roster.
If you take Bateman for example. He is an aging small edge fwd who is not up to the pressure of the NRL. Because he's running on tin legs his aggressive energizer style outshines his physical statue and skill level which results in him getting frustrated, he then gives away dumb penalties or gets sin binned. On the otherhand you have a near copy of him in Sharks fwd Nikora. They are the same height and weight however the difference is Nikora is 4 yrs younger and is at his peak. I was praying a couple of years ago to nab him as he would have developed into a better player than Bateman.
This is just one example of the type of player that we tend to recruit .
Russell Packer, Ben Matulino, Joey Leilua bla bla bla.
We often pay big dollars for players who have dicky knees and or at the end of their careers. If they are good players with no baggage we pay overs.
Once we start losing, these players buzz off and the coaching merry go round starts.
The only thing we've done different is we've got rid of the board and it's toxic culture, so I'm hoping that a player like Luai can instill some winning culture into the joint and players like Galvin and the other good young players stick around and get into a crocodile roll ;)

This post has got me starting to believe again.
Why do we do it to ourselves. :)
Hey Jim, is there a new avatar in the pipeline?

3 consecutive spoons is unforgivable. This rabble has dug itself into such a deep abyss that it’s inconceivable they don’t do a 4peat in ‘25.

Why rookie Tiger was left spewing – literally – after missing team bus
By Christian Nicolussi
August 15, 2024 — 7.45pm

Lachie Galvin had to clean the Wests Tigers gym and was put through extra training sessions so gruelling he vomited as part of his punishment for missing the team bus last month.

Galvin was literally spewing after his alarm clock failed to go off and he and teammates Tallyn Da Silva and Luke Laulilii were late getting away from their Auckland hotel following the round 21 loss to the New Zealand Warriors.

Galvin opened up for the first time about the New Zealand slip-up, one of the few things that have not gone right for the rookie this year.

“We weren’t even on the drink,” Galvin told this masthead. “We were sober as. It was just a case of the alarm not going off.

“We had got home after the game, and because Luke had the HIA, we stayed with him. We were up until about 3am or 3.30am, just chilling and talking and mucking around in our room.

“I set my alarm for 5.15am because we had to be on the bus at 6am. But the alarm never went off. [Tigers official] Billy Callaway knocked on our door about 6.10am. Luckily, we were already packed. There was no time for a shower. We all looked at each other and were like, ‘Wow’. We got a taxi to the airport, which Billy paid for, but we ended up getting to the airport before the bus. We apologised to [coach] Benji [Marshall] and the team.

“We had to do extras when we got home. We cleaned the gym for a few days. And we had three sessions of ‘off-feet’, which included the rower and assault bike. There were a few challenges, like one minute on and one minute off. I threw up a few times on the bike.”

Galvin would have been in contention for NRL rookie of the year honours but became ineligible after receiving a two-match suspension for a hip-drop tackle in round four.

The five-eighth will play his 19th game of the season on Saturday night against South Sydney and cited his left-edge combination with Samuel Fainu as one of the most pleasing things he had achieved in his first year.

But Galvin will switch to the right side against Souths, a move designed to help his right-footed kicking game while also giving fans an early look at how he performs on that side of the field ahead of the arrival of $6m man Jarome Luai, a predominantly left-sided player.

The 19-year-old will be joined by good friend Heath Mason, who starts his first NRL game at fullback following confirmation Jahream Bula underwent season-ending shoulder surgery.

A win over Souths, along with the bye in round 26, could give the Tigers a shot at avoiding the wooden spoon against Parramatta, who await in the final round at Campbelltown. Bula has a mortgage on the No.1 jersey, but his enforced absence will give Mason a chance to shine in his preferred position.

Good article.
I've said it a couple of times now that Lachlan needs to be flexible on what side he attacks with Luai coming.
I think he and AD might do well. Staines to score more tries.
On occasions a scrum set play where Lauchlan sweeps to the blind side and links up with Fianu would be good.
