    The Pearce Problem

Can someone explain why Boyd Cordner is in the team? Has anyone ever seen him do anything effective for NSW? If he didn't play for the Roosters, would he ever get selected?

    Origin 2013 NSW side

Last year, for the first time in years, NSW found 2 props that could match it with Queensland: Tamou and Grant. And yet the selectors are stupid enough to ditch one of those props (Grant) and introduce yet another debutant?? In the past 7 years, how many NSW players have actually outplayed...

    Origin 2013 NSW side

I agree with the last couple of comments on Brett Stewart. He almost never makes a mistake in defence, and scores a try almost every match thanks to his brilliant support play. How much more can you expect? Of course Hayne needs to be there too, but he can contribute from the wing or the centres.

    Blues Halves for 2013

I think Brett Stewart's contribution this year has been much under-rated. The big bonus to Stewart's game is that he consistently turns half-chances into tries. In a tight Origin match, where you're lucky to get any chances at all, that's absolute gold. Stewart scored 3 tries this series. 2...

    Cooper Cronk sinbinning.

I agree too. It's one thing to bend the rules and get pinged for a profession foul --e.g., making a tackle from an offside position. But Cronk's foul last night went way beyond that. It was so blatant, you can't dismiss it as just a bit of "gamesmanship". It was as if he was giving the...

    Billy Slater

I guess that's why Queensland has lost 6 series in a row.

Who was man of the match?

I've never been a big fan of G. Stewart in the NSW team. He's played a decent number of matches now but I don't think I have yet seen him set up a try or make a line break, even though he gets plenty of ball in attack. I can't say why, and maybe someone who knows more about rugby league can...

    Robbie Farah

Regardless of form, the point is that Farah is much more of a multidimensional player than Ennis or Buderus. Farah's dummy half running and kicking are far ahead of those two. That alone is enough to give Queensland headaches. They can't just concentrate on lining up to smash the first...

Who was man of the match?

All those "experts" who wanted Buderus in the team over Farah this year need to be publicly shamed. The same goes for the NSW selectors who picked Ennis for NSW all those years. All those claims that Ennis is an "origin player" and a "better defender" than Farah look pretty stupid now.

    Bring on Game 3

I thought Queensland's kicking game tonight was one of the best kicking displays I've ever seen in Rugby League. The number of times Cronk and Smith kicked from inside their own half and trapped NSW in goal was unbelievable. Not to mention all the repeat sets with perfect little grubbers...

"Why I said no to Ricky": Lyon

My bad. I should have said his last 5 games for NSW, which have all been losses. He did play a few games all the way back in 2002-3, and he may have done well in those. But that was 10 years ago. I still can't think of a good performance in any of the 5 Origin matches he's played since 2003.

    Official NSW Game Two Team

Does anyone know why Tim Mannah fell so out of favour? Eels fans, how has he been going for you guys? I thought he was by far the best of the non-Gallen props last series. He wasn't brilliant against Queensland (few players are), but he worked hard and got fast play the balls, and he seemed...

"Why I said no to Ricky": Lyon

I think it's all theoretical anyway. Even if Lyon made himself available for selection and was 100% keen to play, I still wouldn't pick him. He has played 5 Origin games and NSW has lost all 5 (the only other player with a record like that is B. Morris). I don't ever remember him having a...

If NSW Lose this Origin Series this year....

NSW will win a series sooner or later. And every series Qld has won up to then will just make that moment all the sweeter for us!

    2012 NSW soo side..

+1 Mannah is the one NSW prop who hasn't been a complete failure in Origin in the last couple of years. He's tough and he gets quick play-the-balls. It would be a travesty if NSW doesn't pick him.

    2012 NSW soo side..

I have to agree. I think it's a risky strategy to start with 3 "attacking" players in the back row and not a single defensive workhorse. Beau Scott's defence played a critical role for NSW in the first 2 games last year, and was sorely missed in game 3. With Scott out, I would be inclined...

    2012 NSW soo side..

I'm glad to see Scott is getting some credit on this forum. Just watching him in City vs. Country reminded me how good he is in rep football. When City was up on Country's line, it seemed like every 2nd tackle was made by Scott. According to nrl.com, he finished with 31 tackles for the match...

    2012 NSW soo side..

And don't forget Game 2 last season. NSW was leading by 4 with about 10 minutes to go when Qld put up a bomb and Ennis was penalized for obstructing a player running through, giving the Maroons a set of 6 on the NSW line and an opportunity to win the game. Thank God they dropped the ball a...

Win/loss record for NSW players in Origin

Also don't forget Game 2 2011 where late in the 2nd half he gave away a penalty 20m out from the NSW line when he obstructed a Queensland player running through for a bomb. Thankfully NSW held them out on that set of six.

The Really Early NSW Team 2012 Thread That Will Be Hated By All!!!

Yeah I feel the same about Williams for now. I worry that he's one of those players who is absolutely destructive when his team is already on top, but not necessarily that effective in a tight match against high quality opposition. (Reminds me a bit of Dave Taylor actually...) Also, good form...
